                                                      OCTOBER
On Thursday 14th October 2010 the Mayor of Fareham, Cllr. Brian Bayford went blind!    Fortunately for him it was not a permanent condition.    He had bravely agreed to support us in our efforts to create a greater awareness of the problems facing people who lose the precious gift of sight, as part of Crofton Lions project to promote World Sight Day.   It was a great day and attracted a lot of public interest.  We also used the opportunity to promote Medic Alert and other Lions activity.

Have\'nt we done well!In 2010 we won the District Website Competition, this year when Lion Frances Bond  and Lion President Reg Norton attended the Convention in Old Windsor we were pleased to learn that our Club had been awarded the "Journey for Sight" Cup for our efforts on behalf of the visually handicapped.    Four days earlier, on 15th March, Fareham Borough Council and Fareham community Action presented us with a Certificate to recognise Crofton Lions Contribution to the community over the last ten years

At the end of March we presented 40 Certificates of Appreciation to children at Baycroft Special School to recognise all who took part in the Peace Poster Competition this year.

In other schools we have five students who have recently completed the Gold Standard for their ‘Young Leaders in Service' Awards.

                                                           APRIL
Several of the adults who helped us during the Christmas period had asked about joining the Lions.    Two of them, Tony and Victoria Stabler, have now been inducted as members and are already having a tremendous impact on our activities.   Another newcomer to the area, Edwina Howell, has expressed interest in joining.    Edwina made quite a name for herself fundraising for charity in Hendon before moving to Hill Head.    So, things are looking much better.

It is a pity that the potential increase in membership has come just a little too late to help us at this very busy time of the year.

We raffled Giant Easter Eggs and Chocolate Bunnies in each of the local pubs plus Chinese Restaurant and the News and Booze Convenience Store.

Matt King as St GeorgeMost of our attention was focussed on the Festival of St George.

The main feature was a Village Fayre on Saturday 23rd April in the Stubbington Recreation Ground.    See the full detail

We had a massive turnout this year for the Childrens Fancy Dress and Easter Egg Hunt which was organised by our new members!

SpecTrek LogoWe contributed 600 pairs of spectacles to this years SpecTrek.

A much smaller collection than Lion Peter usually gets but at least we have the pleasure of knowing that up to 600 people will be helped by those glasses.

                                                         MAY

A major Community Service Project:     We were asked at short notice to help decorate and prepare a large building in time to open as a Care Centre for adults with learning difficulties.    Members of the Club volunteered many hours work and the Centre opened on time five days later!

Vicky at Paultons We took part in the annual District Outing to Paultons Park where we hosted Our Guests at Paultonseight Attaxia patients, and two family groups in need of respite.
